NAVYA Submits Survivor-Centric Policy Suggestions Before Supreme Court in Acid Attack Matter

In the matter of Shaheen Malik vs. Union of India, NAVYA — Centre for Justice and Social Change has submitted comprehensive policy suggestions before the Hon'ble Supreme Court, advocating for a survivor-centric policy framework for acid attack survivors.
The proposed framework focuses on strengthening prevention, protection, rehabilitation, and access to justice, while addressing the legal, medical, psychological, educational, and socio-economic challenges faced by survivors. It emphasises immediate first aid and emergency medical care, timely and specialised treatment, counselling and psychological support, legal assistance, rehabilitation, education, employment, skill development, and access to other essential support services.
The Supreme Court highlighted the important role of NGOs and directed NGOs that have come forward to assist the Court to submit their recommendations and suggestions, particularly regarding the nature of curriculum to be introduced at the school and college levels to create awareness about post-accident treatment, first-aid protocols, preventive measures, and how to respond to post-accident situations on an emergency basis.
An application for impleadment on behalf of NAVYA — Centre for Justice and Social Change was allowed by the Court, along with the draft policy prepared by Dr. Navpreet Kaur, Founder of NAVYA. Dr. Kaur is an Indian Advocate, legal researcher, and social activist who has been engaged in research and work relating to acid attacks and the rehabilitation of acid attack survivors.
